Newspaper reading class
It's saturday in Taiwan. The highlight of the day is newspaper reading class. No I can't read a newspaper yet-that's why I take the class. I have about an hour commute to the nearest language center offering chinese classes. Daily exposure isn't enough to learn to read and speak Chinese at a high level so I must make the commute to class. It costs about twelve U.S. dollars per classroom hour. A textbook with authentic newspaper articles accompanied by a vocabulary list and discussion questions is used. Learning a language is lots of fun. Since my basic Chinese is pretty fluent at this point i've already started thinking about what language to study next!

At my present place of employment there is no email access. There are computers with internet connections but email is blocked for fear of viruses. But blogging software is not blocked so blogosphere here I come! My current job allows for lots of time to surf the net. I clock into work for eight hours each day but am only required to teach for around three of those hours. So I have more than adequate time to prepare for classes which is a rare commodity in schools that are operated solely to turn a healthy profit.
Hello from Taiwan
Hello from Taiwan and welcome to my new blog! Now if I only I had something to write about. apparently my first experimental post did appear. now I have to figure out how to delete it! This is not as simple as it appears as the blogging software is entirely in Chinese.
